Arrival Suvarnabhumi Airport

Most travelers first arrive in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi (pronounced ‘Su- wan-na-poom’) Airport, a popular gateway to the city. It is brand new built just a few years ago. Its an easy airport to get around. Immigration lines are typically not bad and you move along quickly. You can change some money there as well. Make sure you fill out your entry card for imigration and a hint is get one on the plane as the desk where you pick these up frequently does not have any. This is a royal pain to take care of.

Airport Link to Bangkok

There now is the Airport Link which is the new rail line to the city. Its very easy to use found on the lower level of the airport. Check the stops near your hotel and there are plenty of metered taxis at the various stops.

Its quicker and a nicer ride then the taxi. The aiprot link cars are clean and one can see a great view unlike the ride in the meter taxi. of course if you are have a lot of things with you , at taxi may be your only option but two suitcases can fit on the airport link to Bangkok.

Airport Metered Taxi

The city of Bangkok is located around thirty kilometers from the airport and there are various transportation alternatives to get there. Under all circumstances, keep at bay from touts that often breathe down your neck the minute you step out of the arrival gate.

Licensed taxis are available at the airport which can be booked at the taxi desk. A receipt is made beforehand with the amount and the destination so who would not have much trouble getting to the right place at the right price. The fare amounts to approximately 300 Baht to most destinations. There are tolls involved that have to be paid besides the taxi fare as well. There is an Airport fee of 50 Baht and expressway toll fee of 65 Baht that needs to be paid as well. It’s advisable to carry smaller denomination notes as it could be a problem with taxi drivers. They are famous for either not having the right change or no change at all. So make you sure you have small demonations to pay. The journey from the International Airport can take you a smooth 30 minutes or 90 minutes depending on the traffic. There are English speakers there for the metered taxis. They can help you if you give them the name of your hotel or where your staying. Most of the Taxi drivers do not speak English so get that straight before you leave the airport.

Getting around in Bangkok

Getting around while in this metropolitan city is quite simple after arrival from its international airport and it is well connected with trains, water boats and through roads to various parts of the city. Don’t let the hustle get in your way of having a good time here. Just shrug it all away and you’re off to an amazing time in this city. Make your way through the city either by, taxi, tuck-tuck train or bus. The Capital is home to numerous means of transportation including he most common a motorbike.

The warm climate of 30 degrees Celsius (90 degrees) could demand for a hot and wet adventure considering the rain in Bankok. Bring clothes that are suitable and maybe rain gear if its the rainy season. The travel can range from open air in the Tuck-tuc to the heat of a bus.

The crowd and chaos is the reason why a few travellers prefer to avoid the city. However, there are always thousand others who wish to experience the attractions and other entertaining opportunities of Bangkok. Getting about can be difficult but, with the river running through the center of the city, the everyday challenge of getting from A to B can become part of a captivating adventure. The cool and slick Skytrain also know as the BTS and subway know as the MRT prove to be a hit amongst many visitors.
